I had always wanted to be a teacher, although when I first started college,
I was convinced to study accounting. Although I did very well, that didn't
last very long. My college education began at the C.W. Post Campus of
Long Island University and then transferred to Queens College to major in
Early Childhood Education. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Education with a specialization in Early Childhood Education.
My teaching career began at St. Margaret School in Middle Village,
NY. Can you believe that I taught sixth grade, my first year after
graduating college? It was a fun year, but I was very happy to begin
teaching kindergarten the following year.
After teaching kindergarten for several years, I stayed at home while
raising our family. We have four children, three boys and one girl. While I
was at home, I returned to C.W. Post and earned a Master of Science degree
in Educational Technology.
Several years later I returned to the work force as a general education
teacher in a Head Start/Integrated/Multi-age class for three to five year old children
at the Herbert G. Birch Early Childhood Center in Springfield Gardens, NY.
I taught there for one year and was ecstatic when I became a kindergarten
teacher in the Levittown School District at East Broadway School. I have
just about completed a post graduate degree in literacy. I totally enjoy teaching
and love kindergarten!
Success for Every Student! Childhood should be a journey, not a race!
